Our Environmental Commitment

Kerikeri Homestead Motel is rated Qualmark Enviro Bronze which means we are considered a high performer in environmental activities that include: Energy Efficiency, Waste Management, Water Conservation, Environmental Conservation, and Community Support. We are committed in working towards preserving the environment, with eco-friendly initiatives as a first step of the company’s long-term focus on being “green.”

Primary Short-Term Goals

Raise awareness of sustainable development issues with staff and guests

Monitor progress of implementation measures arising from motel assessments

Products and Practices

Water Conservation

Guests can participate in the towel re-use program, in which they can hang their towels back on the rack and reuse or simply place the towels on the floor or in the bathtub to be replaced by clean, fresh ones.

Electrical Energy Conservation

We are steadily changing to new, low-energy lighting as our current light bulbs expire.

We encourage guests with appropriately placed signage to turn off the lights and television when they are they are not in the room.

We also encourage guests to use Clothes line provided by room 8 as opposed to the dryer when possible

Recycling

We have a recycling program for glass bottles, plastic, tin and paper. Recycling Bins are located by the garage and clearly labeled for disposal.

Eco-Friendly Suppliers and Products

Cleaning processes have been revamped to eliminate the use of aerosols and introduce eco-friendly cleaning chemicals.

All corporate and property-wide collateral is printed on recycled plastics and paper where possible.

Environmental Conservation

We are proud supporters of the BNZ Save the Kiwi which is a powerful and active partnership between BNZ, the Department of Conservation and the Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society.
